Stand There, Look Cute
By Jessica Korch
Stand there, look cute
Remain there, look pretty
All you have to do is smile
And hold that position for a while.
Dress the part, be the girl
Cling on arms, be the needy
Just stay glued to the side
For the love of the silent be open wide.
Speak up, have input
Tighten up, have style
All you have to do is be alive
And make that intelligence thrive.
Say your mind, be the woman
Next to him, be the equal
Just be yourself and none other
For that attracts the true and real lover.

"Butterfly" by Alisha Acquaye
“These are two out of the 10 paintings from my “FAME” series that I am currently working on. The Famepiece has no white paint on it. It is solely black and red, the highlights on the heels are from wiping away the paint. I’d have to say I became a huge fan of Lady Gaga. I was obsessed with her [inspiring] me to be her for Halloween. After Halloween I started researching “fame” and what it means to be famous. Therefore I became intrigued in the idea of Fame, and the glamorous, glitzy, and grotesque aspects of it. After researching I started coming up with words that are associated with fame and paired them up with a photo that I took and [trasnformed] it into a painting. The underlying [aspect] that I think of while working on these paintings is a quote from Lady Gaga herself -- 'self proclaim your own fame.'"

"Eyes," oil on canvas, 3'x5'
“Most of my paintings are based off of people I take with my cell phone, some are staged poses; others, such as 'Eyes,' are not. In this particular painting, I was exploring ways abstraction and controlled painting could work together in one artwork."

“In the series I’m trying to show locations at night that have been occupied during the day, but are vacant after hours. I’ve been experimenting with colors as well, playing with the fact that our eyes see differently at night and revert to blacks and white rather than color. Basically, I’m trying to pick up colors that our eyes/brains aren’t picking up on at night.”
